Many visitors to Vienna concentrate on museums and palaces on their visit – shopping enthusiasts will be wild about Vienna. The most exclusive shopping area in Vienna begins literally at the doorstep of the Hotel Sacher: the streets "Kärntner Straße”, “Dorotheergasse”, “Graben” and “Kohlmarkt” are a veritable shopping paradise. Here you can discover not only high-class goods by traditional Austrian brands such as “Augarten Porzellan” porcelain but also the latest fashions from Milan and Paris.
Many of the small boutiques and traditional shops have been here since imperial times. For fortification during the shopping tour, the sandwiches from the renowned shop “Trzesniewski” are exquisite with their freshly-prepared spreads. If you are seeking a traditional “Viennese Café” atmosphere, you can also enjoy a cup of Original “Wiener Melange”, coffee with milk and piece of Original Sacher-Torte in the Café Sacher and while you are there, leave your purchases at the hotel.
If you would rather hunt for antiques, there are numerous opportunities to do so in Vienna: In the “Dorotheum”, Austria’s most traditional auction house is only 100 metres away from the Hotel Sacher. Round the “Dorotheum”, many antique shops have sprung up, often specialist dealers with excellent contacts to sources of old furniture, decor and works of art throughout the whole of Europe. You can rummage through the junk goods every Saturday at the flea market along the “Wienzeile” street.
The biggest Viennese market the “Naschmarkt” is also located here and you can find, alongside any sort of Austrian delicatessen goods, fresh fruit and vegetables and a wide array of exotic herbs and spices. The hip bars and restaurants are perfect for a quick light lunch.
The biggest shopping street in Vienna is the “Mariahilferstraße”. The large department stores and specialist stores jostle for space here for more than three kilometres, between the “Westbahnhof” railway station and the “Ringstraße” street. No matter how eccentric your wishes may be, you’ll definitely find something on the “Mariahilferstraße”!
