24 hours in Salzburg
8:30 am: Start on your tour of discovery through the city of Mozart in a good mood, with a sumptuous breakfast buffet in the “Rote Salon”. Due to its excellent location, the Hotel Sacher Salzburg is the perfect staring point for a walk through the city.
9:00 am: Head out from the hotel over the “Makartsteg” bridge to the Old Town. Particularly in the early hours, away from the hoards of tourists, this attractive bridge offers you a fabulous view over the Old Town, the fortress and the mountains as well as an excellent opportunity to snap a few photos for the album. On arrival at the other bank of the River Salzach, you can take one of the many narrow passages into the charming “Getreidegasse”, an old, narrow street that, with its tempting shops, idyllic arcades and historical charm is one of Austria loveliest shopping centres.
10:00 am: Passing the historical gates, you quickly reach the house-number 9 – the birthplace of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Follow the “Getreidegasse” until the end of the street and there you will reach the Mozart Monument, the magnificent Cathedral and the “Residenz Salzburg”, the Bishop’s Palace.
11:30 am: Why not dare a ride on the “Standseilbahn” funicular railway to the “Festung Hohensalzburg” Fortress and enjoy the fantastic view over Salzburg.
13:00 pm: Back down to earth again – definitely time for lunch! For a typical Austrian “Schmankerl”– a treat – we recommend the adjacent farmer’s market on the “Universitätsplatz” University Square or the restaurant “Triangel” close to the venue of the Salzburger Festival.
14:30 pm: On sunny afternoons from April to October, we recommend a visit to “Schloss Hellbrunn” Castle with its impressive trick fountains. During bad weather, a good alternative is a visit to the “Museum der Moderne” Museum of Contemporary Art or the “Stiegl Brauwelt Erlebnisbrauerei” exhibition brewery.
17:00 pm: Pause for your “Nachmittagsjause” – afternoon break – with an Original Sacher-Torte and a “Wiener Melange” coffee with milk at the Café Sacher.
19:00 pm: After a dinner at the gourmet restaurant “Zirbelzimmer”, it is high time to discover Salzburg by night. Whether going to the “Landestheater” theatre, or to a concert in the “Marmorsaal” marble room of “Schloss Mirabell” Castle or for an exquisite dinner at “Restaurant Ikarus” in the illustrious “Hangar-7” Museum, the city of Salzburg has a broad repertoire on offer. Our friendly concierge team would be delighted to help you with the procurement of any tickets you might need.
And last but not least, round off the evening in our hotel bar to the atmospheric accompaniment of live piano music before drifting gently off to sleep in one of our 112 lovingly furnished rooms or suites.
